I just absolutely love gorgeous kids books, but I am quite picky! I know, I know, the books aren’t for me. But I just get so much (more) joy out of a “good” book and I really think that joy radiates to my son. Probably the best tip to read more to your kids, is to have books you like. My toddler can’t read so all the words and enthusiasm have to come from me.
I also like to rotate books, my toddler is usually very set on a certain book. If I don’t switch I swear I am reading the same book for 5 months…. That’s just too much for me! So here are the books that I have been loving for January, basically just books about January. I have a few others too, maybe I will share them as well soon. But 7 books is more than enough in my opinion to share. I can’t get through the endless lists of books on blogs, so I won’t bother you with every book under the sun!
Okay, here are my favourite books for Winter! If you want to add them to your cart or wishlist on Amazon, just click the photo!
1. Winter Sleep

My toddler absolutely adores this book, it’s probably his favourite right now! It’s about a child that goes to his grandmother and the grandmother teaches him about hibernation and animals in winter. It’s told beautifully and in an easy way!
2. What to look for in Winter

Okay, not really a book for reading. But very much so for pointing and learning. My son is 2 so he is probably not the demographic.. But it is fun to reference back to, “look a red berry just like in the book, the birds eat those right? We shouldn’t”. It almost teaches me more about what to talk about when we are outside.
3. Winter Dance

I love the illustrations, the somewhat poetic text and it is just so very sweet!
4. A Thing Called Snow

Another favourite from my son! I truly enjoy all things Yuval Zommer creates. The story is simple, but teaches the concept of snow in a simple way. It also has lots of animals we don’t have where we live so I enjoy that! My toddler really enjoys books with animals, so if yours does as well this one is perfect!
5. The Shortest Day

6. Goodbye Autumn Hello Winter

This is a really nice book to showcase the changing of the season from autumn to winter. I feel like I should be teaching my son this, so this book is fits really well. And I really like the illustrations!
7. Ten Ways to Hear Snow

As Lina walks past snowmen and across icy sidewalks, she discovers ten ways to pay attention to what might have otherwise gone unnoticed. With stunning illustrations by Kenard Pak and thoughtful representation of a modern Arab American family from Cathy Camper, Ten Ways to Hear Snow is a layered exploration of mindfulness, empathy, and what we realize when the world gets quiet.
I honestly don’t have many culturally diverse books, which is a shame because both me and my husband have family abroad (his dad is British and my grandmother Italian). Also just in general ofcourse!! I also enjoy the character paying attention to the small things while outside. I try to do that as much as I can so I just really liked this one!
I hope this has given you some inspiration! Please know that you don’t need tons of books, rotating each season, etc, etc! Do what feels right for your family.
With love,
Romina
Ps: if you click on the picture it takes you to amazon where you can purchase the book if you want. If you do I might get a small percentage of the sale, but no worries it’s not added to your price!
